Report on Volunteering in America

Volunteering in America has been at its highest since 2003. This status report, on volunteering by the Corporation for National and Commmunity Service CEO Patrick Covington, demonstrates how Americans across the nation are getting involved in community service. Covington pointed out areas that are still in need of help as well as support services available for locating volunteer opportunities and ways individuals can initiate programs. You can find out more about the Corporation for National and Commmunity Service programs here.

Through "United We Serve," which is managed by the Corporation for National and Commmunity Service, First Lady Michelle Obama is also urging community members to participate on the local level. She stresses that involvement can be in a number of ways and can be large or small.

President Obama describes "United We Serve" as a nationwide service initiative that will help meet growing social needs resulting from the economic downturn. With the knowledge that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things when given the proper tools, President Obama is asking us to come together to help lay a new foundation for growth.
